The Best Songwriters Ever? One Direction Admit They've Written Most Of Their Forthcoming Album Themselves

One Direction have written most of their forthcoming album themselves – but they admit that turning their backs on established songwriters could backfire on them.

The band have just released new single Best Song Ever – a track written by Wayne Hector, John Ryan, Julian Bunetta and Ed Drewett – but have opted to veer away from tried and trusted composers by acting as main writers on their eagerly anticipated new long player.
However, they admit breaking away from the song writing formula that won them fans all over the world with Up All Night and Take Me Home is risky.

Up all night: The band have been putting in the hours as they write songs for their enw album

“We wrote three songs on the last album, bit this is different,” band member Louis Tomlinson told The Sun. “Liam (Payne) and I have been spending our days off writing, It will be interesting to hear what people make of it but you'll always get criticised.”

Harry Styles added: “Everyone is entitled to their opinion but it's easy to hate One Direction.”

Amongst those working with them on the album are pop veterans McFly, who jetted out to Belfast earlier this year to pen a new track with Niall Horan.

Hard at work: The band are currently on tour, but expect to drop their new album by the end of the year

“It hasn't got a title at the moment but we wrote the song with Niall,” revealed bassist Dougie Poynter. “He's got some good ideas so had a lot of input.”

Snow Patrol's Gary Lighbody has also been working with the band.

“We wrote with Harry,” he said. “It was a lot of fun. He's a real dude actually. We've no idea if those songs will make it yet, though. It's a long prcess. It's great to work with other people – it's good to flex the muscle.”
